The Psychological Novel

Definition: a novel that focuses on the complex mental and emotional lives of its characters and explores the various levels of mental activity.

Common mental illnesses:

  • Psychosis
  • Neurosis
  • schyzofrenia
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Multiple personality disorder
  • Clynical depression

The purpose of my web page is to give my students an opportunity to get to know me as a person. I want themto know that after I am done with teaching, my life is just as regular as any other individual.
Another reason is to give my students their assignments ahead of time, so if they miss school they could go to the website and get it.

What's New?
 
For the next three weeks our class will be concentrating on:
1. Reading the novel Crime and Punishment
2. We will be discussing What is a psychological novel
3. We will be learning about different mental illnesses
4. We will learn facts about the author of Crime and Punishment(Fyodor Dostoevsky)
Assigments Include:
1.  A 1000 word paper analyzing one of the major charactes in the novel.
2. Groups of five student will research the significant political, social and literary influence that shaped Crime and Punishment.
3. Each group will create an original power point presentation of their research.
4. Each group will also dramatized a favorite scene from the novel.

RUBRIC
1. The power point presentation should have from 5 to 8 slides. It must also include animation and effects.
2. The research should include from 6 to 10 sources( printed and online material).
3. The 1000 word paper should be well oganized around the main idea. Grammar and word choice is going to be evaluated. Creativity and originality should be one of the goals of the paper and would be part of the grading.
